Writing for The Blackacre Times

Length

There is no specific length requirement for posts, although between 400-600 words is recommended. Some topics lend themselves to short entries with bullet points and others to lengthy entries with lots of headers. Use your best judgment based on your chosen topic.

Tone

The tone of the blog should be light, conversational, and chatty.

Content

The primary audience for our blog is GSU law students. Most of our posts are written to capture their attention, as we cover law-related, library-related, or Atlanta-related topics. When considering a topic, ask yourself whether it will appeal to one of our law students or how you can connect it with our library. We would like posts related to:

  • Life as a law student
  • GSU College of Law News
  • GSU Law Library News

Whichever topic you choose to write about, tie it back to our library, our collection, or to a law student focus.

Images

We prefer to include an image with every blog because images enhance the post. While we do have a few images of our library we can use, we primarily use public domain, royalty free, and Creative Commons licensed images from other sources. Some good sources are Flickr (do an Advanced Search and select “All Creative Commons” in the drop-down license content menu) and Wiki Commons. Always include attribution and/or a link back to the image.

Submission Process

Topic ideas should be sent to the current editor for approval, revision, or rejection.

If a topic is approved, the final draft should be sent to the editor. The editor will approve, revise, or reject the draft for publication.

All submissions are subject to our editorial discretion.

Policy

The Law Library reserves the right, but is not obligated, to remove content or decline publishing content that contains commercial solicitations; is factually erroneous/libelous; is wildly off-topic; that cannot be translated into English by Google Translate or other free online translation software; or that otherwise violates applicable law.

Additionally, for current Georgia State University faculty, staff, and students, please remember that your use of the Law Library’s Blog is subject to the University’s Student Code of Conduct and Administrative Policies and Procedures and Information Systems Use Policies, as may be applicable.
